Cameco Step Up for Mental Health bigger and better than ever in 2023

Cameco is proud to announce the 5th annual Cameco Step Up for Mental Health Run/Walk returning on September 24 with a bigger event than ever before.

“Step Up for Mental Health is an event like no other in our community,” said Cameco’s president and CEO Tim Gitzel. “The energy at last year’s event was indescribable, with thousands of runners and walkers showing that mental health is a priority for them and their loved ones. I can’t wait to bring this incredible event back to Saskatchewan and build on this momentum. We are not only raising funds for important community initiatives in our province, but by coming together we are helping erase the stigma around mental health.”

Cameco Step Up for Mental Health 2023 will offer three distances – 5K, 10K and, new this year, 21.1K (half marathon). For the first time, Cameco Step Up for Mental Health will be a sanctioned road race with Saskatchewan Athletics and will serve as the Saskatchewan Championships for these three distances.

New routes for each distance will also take participants through the heart of Saskatoon, starting at Prairieland Park and finishing downtown along the riverbank. Newly designed swag will be included with each race registration and will surely be a popular item long after the race is done.

Registration is open for Cameco Step Up for Mental Health, which will be held in Saskatoon on Sunday, September 24, 2023. Registration is $50 for a limited time. In 2022, Step Up for Mental Health sold out with 4,500 participants. This year, the goal is 8,000 participants, with a limited number being virtual entries. Registration, course maps and more information are available at www.stepupsk.ca

As always, 100% of registration fees – plus a matching amount from Cameco – supports the Cameco Fund for Mental Health, administered by the Saskatoon Community Foundation. Since 2019, more than $1.7 million has been raised to assist mental health projects and programs in dozens of Saskatchewan communities.

The 2023 edition of Step Up also features major new partnerships. Cameco is pleased to partner with Prairie Run Crew – a majority Indigenous-owned running outreach program led by mental health role model Tarrant Cross Child – to help provide course marshals and timing. Cameco also welcomes three new presenting sponsors: New Balance, WBM and FFUN Group. Event partners include Brainsport, Pattison Outdoor, Sheraton Cavalier Saskatoon Hotel, Rawlco and the Saskatoon Community Foundation.
