Step Up for Mental Health 5K Run/Walk returns to Ontario

March 2, 2023

PORT HOPE, Ontario, Canada – Cameco announced today that its Step Up for Mental Health 5K fun run/walk is returning to an in-person event on May 13, 2023, at 8:30 a.m. The event had taken place in a virtual format for the past three years due to the pandemic.

Cameco’s Step Up for Mental Health 5K fun run/walk will take place at Victoria Park in Cobourg. The event is open to the community and participants will be treated to a fun, inspirational experience on a beautiful course that highlights Cobourg’s historic downtown core and waterfront parks.

“We are thrilled to be bringing the Step Up for Mental Health run/walk back to an in-person event this year,” said Dale Clark, vice-president of Cameco Fuel Services Division. “Mental health is such a personal journey for every person, and we all have our own experiences or reasons as to why we feel it’s essential to step up for this important cause. We are looking forward to bringing people together to raise much-needed funds for mental health programs in our local area.”

Early bird registration is open now for $40 until April 1. On April 2, registration increases to $50 and registration after April 23 is $55. Participants will receive a running t-shirt, hoodie and medal. Registration for students (ages 8-17) is $30 and includes a hoodie and medal.

Participation is free for individuals who struggle with addictions and/or mental health issues – but registration is still required. A staff member/formal support person accompanying someone in this category can also sign up for free.

Every dollar of the entry fee, plus a matching amount from Cameco, supports the Cameco Fund for Mental Health (established through the Saskatoon Community Foundation). These funds are disbursed annually to organizations undertaking projects that promote or support mental health in Northumberland County and area.

For anyone not able to participate but still wanting to make a donation or pledge another participant, donation and pledge options are available on the registration page. Donations of $20 or more are eligible for a tax receipt from the Saskatoon Community Foundation.

Thanks to the support of the community, the Cameco Fund for Mental Health has distributed over $200,000 to local organizations since 2019.

Registration is now open.
